Demand Justice for Palestinian Student Activist Mahmoud Khalil
Columbia University, which recently published a new protocol on its plans to cooperate with ICE, has repeatedly targeted Mahmoud Khalil for his Palestinian identity and outspoken activism. Over the past 17 months, he has faced harassment for his role as a lead negotiator during the Gaza Solidarity Encampment and for speaking out in media interviews and press conferences.
Columbia’s continued collaboration with federal agencies and outside partisan institutions has enabled this injustice. Like many other Arab and Muslim students, Khalil has been the target of Zionist harassment campaigns, fueled by doxxing websites like Canary Mission, designed to instill fear in pro-Palestine activists and silence dissent.
We demand the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil from DHS detention and a reversal of Columbia University’s protocol permitting ICE on campus without a warrant.
✍️ Add your name to demand justice.
Thank you for taking action. Together, we can demand accountability, protect human rights, and work toward lasting peace.

🔴 Action 1: URGENT – Block Weapons to Israel
The Senate will soon vote on blocking weapons to Israel as Gaza rebuilds and tanks roll into the West Bank.
For the first time in 20 years, Israeli tanks are advancing through the occupied West Bank. Just yesterday, Israeli forces killed two 13-year-old Palestinian children. These horrifying escalations continue as Israel violates ceasefire terms in Gaza and obstructs rebuilding efforts.
We cannot look away while our tax dollars enable these atrocities.
📢 Tell your senators to vote YES on Senator Bernie Sanders’ bill, S.J.RES.20, which aims to block 10,000 155mm artillery shells from being sent to Israel—the same weapons fueling violence and displacement across Palestine.
👉 Click here to contact your senators now.
🚨 Action 2: Stop Mike Huckabee’s Confirmation
Tell your senators to oppose the confirmation of Mike Huckabee for U.S. Ambassador to Israel. His record makes it clear why he must be blocked:
❌ He actively denies the existence of the Palestinian people
❌ He supports the Israeli government’s violent forced displacement of Palestinians
📢 Send a letter to your senators today!

📢 Local CA Action: Stop the Censorship of Ethnic Studies
A dangerous new bill, AB 1468, has been introduced in the California legislature that would censor the teaching of anti-Arab racism, anti-Palestinian racism, and Islamophobia in high school Ethnic Studies classes.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has launched a petition urging the legislature to oppose AB 1468. As CAIR states:
“AB 1468 is a deeply problematic bill that seeks to undermine Ethnic Studies in California by stripping control from educators and scholars, imposing political censorship, and erasing critical histories.”
📢 Take action now: Sign the CAIR petition
The bill, introduced by Assembly members Rick Zbur and Dawn Addis, originates from the Jewish Legislative Caucus (JLC) and mandates that all Ethnic Studies curriculum and materials be approved by the State Board of Education with input from a newly formed “advisory” committee. Given the pro-Israel bias of the bill’s backers, discussions of Israeli apartheid, ethnic cleansing, settler colonialism, and genocide will likely be prohibited under the guise of combatting “antisemitism.”
Local school districts would be required to comply—or face legal consequences.
JVP Bay Area and other JVP chapters will be mobilizing over the summer to stop this bill.
📢 Sign the CAIR petition now: 👉 Click here

🌍 EKO – Demand the EU Suspend Trade with Israel
This is our moment! Spain, Slovenia, Belgium, and Ireland have already spoken out, but we need more than words—we need action.

February 17th, 2025
In light of the increasing suppression of free speech, particularly targeting those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, it is more important than ever to defend our First Amendment rights—the foundation of a democratic society.
Brave university students who have voiced their support for Palestinian rights are facing unjust persecution. We must not remain silent. Below are three critical opportunities for you to take action and support these courageous students:
Take Action for Free Speech
1️⃣ Email the University of California Regents
Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) is calling on the UC Regents to take meaningful steps to protect students and uphold free speech on campus. Act now by sending an email demanding accountability and action:
Email the UC Regents
2️⃣ Sign the Petition to Defend Academic Freedom at Harvard
Harvard recently canceled an event on medical patients in Gaza after adopting a widely criticized definition of anti-Semitism, which has been used to silence discussions on Palestinian rights. This is not about fostering open debate—it’s about suppressing speech. Sign the petition to demand that Harvard uphold academic freedom:

3️⃣ Support Columbia University Students Fighting Back
Three Columbia University students have filed a lawsuit against the administration, alleging wrongful suspensions due to their pro-Palestine activism. Their complaint highlights violations of university policies, targeted retaliation for their views, and breaches of New York’s landlord-tenant laws in their eviction from university housing. Learn more about their case here:

Your voice matters. By taking action, you help protect the fundamental rights of students and ensure that freedom of speech remains a cornerstone of our society.
February 3rd, 2025
This week, we are joining Win Without War in urging our Senators to reject Trump’s extremist nominee for Ambassador to Israel—Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee is a vocal supporter of Israeli settlements and aligns with far-right figures like Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and former National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. He has publicly stated that Israel has a “biblical right to the entire West Bank”, which he calls “Judea and Samaria”—a perspective that disregards Palestinian rights and international law. Even more disturbingly, he has claimed that “there’s really no such thing as a Palestinian.”
This nomination is both appalling and dangerous. We must take action now. Click [here] to add your name and urge your senators to vote NO on Huckabee’s confirmation.
Thank you for standing with us in the pursuit of peace and justice.
With gratitude,
Rabbi Cat Zavis & the Israel/Palestine Social Action Committee

Is this what a ceasefire looks like? Although the news tells us that a ceasefire agreement has been made, we have learned that in the West Bank, Palestinians are being attacked by Israeli settlers and the Israeli military, including troops redeployed from Gaza.
To learn more about this please click here.
To take action today you can click here to demand that Chevron divest from its projects in Israel and immediately end its support for Israel’s regime of genocide and apartheid against Palestinians.
January 20th, 2025
This week, as the fragile ceasefire takes hold, starvation continues to devastate Gaza, we remain focused on urging our politicians to fulfill their promise of providing humanitarian aid to Palestine.
Take Action:
- Restore Humanitarian Funding: Urge your elected officials to restore U.S. humanitarian funding for Palestinian refugees through UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) by clicking here.
- Learn More: Israel recently passed a bill preventing UNRWA from delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians. Read more in an article by Jewish Voice for Labor here.
Another Critical Action:
Today, as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, we also call on you to ask legislators to block the proposed $8 billion in weapons destined for the Israeli government. You can take action by clicking here.
Thank you for standing with us to demand justice and accountability. Together, we can make a difference.

We have two actions this week.
Urgent. Take action now. Demand the American Medical Association call for the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza.
Dr. Abu Safiya was abducted by Israeli forces and is reportedly being held in a detention center notorious for torture. This is part of a larger crisis—Israel has killed over 1,000 Palestinian healthcare workers and destroyed much of Gaza’s medical infrastructure, including Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last functioning hospital in northern Gaza.
We cannot stand by. Visit bit.ly/release-dr-hussam to make your voice heard.
