Stand Against Extremism: Urge Senators to Reject Mike Huckabee’s Nomination for Ambassador to Israel

February 3rd, 2025

This week, we are joining Win Without War in urging our Senators to reject Trump’s extremist nominee for Ambassador to Israel—Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee is a vocal supporter of Israeli settlements and aligns with far-right figures like Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and former National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. He has publicly stated that Israel has a “biblical right to the entire West Bank”, which he calls “Judea and Samaria”—a perspective that disregards Palestinian rights and international law. Even more disturbingly, he has claimed that “there’s really no such thing as a Palestinian.”

This nomination is both appalling and dangerous. We must take action now. Click [here] to add your name and urge your senators to vote NO on Huckabee’s confirmation.

Thank you for standing with us in the pursuit of peace and justice.

With gratitude,
Rabbi Cat Zavis & the Israel/Palestine Social Action Committee

Bay Area Call to Action – Feb. 14

For our Bay Area friends:

The Berkeley High School Intersectional Student Activists—including Judah Press, son of Beyt Tikkun members Elana Auerbach and Bill Press—have put out a Call to Action in support of unhoused community members.

They are seeking participation from Beyt Tikkun members and other social justice organizations to join their action on Feb. 14 at 2:30 PM. Rabbi Cat will be out of town, but we hope some of you can attend and stand in solidarity.

All event details can be found in the flyer below. Please share widely with your local networks!

Is this what a ceasefire looks like? Although the news tells us that a ceasefire agreement has been made, we have learned that in the West Bank, Palestinians are being attacked by Israeli settlers and the Israeli military, including troops redeployed from Gaza.

To learn more about this please click here.

To take action today you can click here to demand that Chevron divest from its projects in Israel and immediately end its support for Israel’s regime of genocide and apartheid against Palestinians.

This week, as the fragile ceasefire takes hold, starvation continues to devastate Gaza, we remain focused on urging our politicians to fulfill their promise of providing humanitarian aid to Palestine.

Take Action:

  • Restore Humanitarian Funding: Urge your elected officials to restore U.S. humanitarian funding for Palestinian refugees through UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) by clicking here.
  • Learn More: Israel recently passed a bill preventing UNRWA from delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians. Read more in an article by Jewish Voice for Labor here.

Another Critical Action:
Today, as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, we also call on you to ask legislators to block the proposed $8 billion in weapons destined for the Israeli government. You can take action by clicking here.

Thank you for standing with us to demand justice and accountability. Together, we can make a difference.

Thank you for standing up for peace and justice,

Rabbi Cat Zavis and the Beyt Tikkun Israel/Palestine Social Action Committee

Today we are teaming up with Doctors Against Genocide in demanding an immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and other healthcare worker hostages illegally detained by Israel. Please click here to send a personalized letter to your representatives.

We included a similar action on behalf of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya in last week’s action. There is still no word from Israel where he is or his condition. We are including again articles you can read to learn more about what happened at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Northern Gaza and the subsequent arrest of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya.

We have two actions this week.

Urgent. Take action now. Demand the American Medical Association call for the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza.

Dr. Abu Safiya was abducted by Israeli forces and is reportedly being held in a detention center notorious for torture. This is part of a larger crisis—Israel has killed over 1,000 Palestinian healthcare workers and destroyed much of Gaza’s medical infrastructure, including Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last functioning hospital in northern Gaza.

We cannot stand by. Visit bit.ly/release-dr-hussam to make your voice heard.

In brighter news, we want to thank the 19 Senators who boldly voted to stop U.S. arms sales to Israel. Together with Win Without War, we are sending messages of gratitude to these senators for standing up for human rights. You can join us and send your message by clicking here.

Finally, if you’d like further insights, you can read Michael Moore’s commentary on this critical vote here.

Thank you for taking action to protect human rights and medical integrity.
