Dear Mayor Barbara Lee and Members of the Oakland Port Commission,

My name is ___________, and I write as a member of Beyt Tikkun Synagogue. Our Synagogue is based in Oakland, CA and works to promote the Jewish values of justice and loving the other. Our members are concerned about the way that Oakland Airport is being used to support the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

As a Jewish synagogue, we have endorsed this campaign because every life is a universe and we cannot stand idly by while our Palestinian sisters and brothers are being annihilated.

Our communities are clear: Oakland’s resources should be used to sustain life, not destroy it. We ask you to engage with labor unions, community organizations, and coalitions to develop an enforceable policy that aligns OAK airport’s operations with socially responsible standards.

We therefore urge you to immediately take action that ends the deadly military cargo shipments through OAK to Israel by prohibiting the use of Oakland International Airport for the transport of weapons or military cargo destined for armed forces or governments with documented human rights violations and convicted of genocide under international law.

Oakland has a proud history of taking principled stances for justice—from supporting the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa to advancing sanctuary policies for immigrants and standing against war and occupation. As a city that values racial, social, and environmental justice, we cannot allow our public infrastructure—maintained by our workers and supported by our communities—to be complicit in ongoing war and genocide in Gaza.

We stand with Oakland’s working people, faith leaders, educators, and youth who are calling for an end to the use of our port for military cargo shipments. Passing this ordinance is not only a moral imperative—it is a continuation of Oakland’s long legacy of courageous leadership in the struggle for justice and freedom.

In solidarity,
