ABOUT
Beyt Tikkun
WE BELIEVE IN A JUDAISM OF LOVE, JUSTICE,
TRANSFORMATION, AND LIBERATION
including that of the Palestinian people and their land. We reject zionism’s ideology of Jewish supremacy, also grounded in European white supremacy. Just as we are committed to being anti-racist, so too are we committed to being anti-zionist.
We heal ourselves and our world through joyful and meaningful spiritual practice, loving relationships, social activism, and revolutionary consciousness.
During our Erev Rosh HaShanah services in 5786/2025, Beyt Tikkun community engaged in a collective visualization of the world we want. We called out images and visions of a future world that is healed and grounded in the values we hold dear. Graphic recording artist Sarah Yukimoto-Saltman created this artistic rendition in real time.
“Rabbi Cat and the BT community are a continuing joy and a much needed source of hope that we can work for a better world.”
— Andre Guerrero
Beyt:
A House – A welcoming, joyful space for spiritual seekers
Tikkun:
Healing, repair, and transformation of ourselves and our world
A Synagogue:
A Jewish Renewal community of prayer, ritual, custom, and study. We integrate spiritual and prophetic consciousness with spiritual activism to create a more loving and just world.
Without Walls:
You don’t have to be Jewish, religiously observant, or in the Bay Area to pray with us, learn with us, or be a member of our community.
Beyt Tikkun: A Synagogue Without Walls is a hybrid spiritual home for politically progressive seekers—Jewish and non-Jewish, based in the San Francisco Bay Area and connected across the world. Founded in 1996 by Rabbi Michael Lerner, we root our community in Jewish spiritual wisdom and practices that cultivate belonging, moral courage, and collective responsibility. At the heart of Judaism is tikkun—the sacred work of healing ourselves and repairing the world. We draw from the most radical strands of our tradition: love of the stranger, the pursuit of freedom and justice, and a prophetic challenge to empire and domination. Guided by the moral audacity of the Hebrew prophets, we live this commitment through prayers, rituals, community, and public engagement—showing up for one another, for the stranger, and for those most impacted by injustice.
We are part of a dynamic new and growing voice for a Judaism Beyond Zionism, committed to untangling inherited trauma, transforming fear, and standing in solidarity with Palestinians and all who seek a liberated world grounded in justice and love.
We infuse traditional liturgy with Hasidic joy, feminist wisdom, spiritual depth, and critical consciousness. Rooted in tradition and open to continual renewal, our rituals, services, and communal life embody our values. Together, we strive to become the world we are praying for.
