A message from Rabbi Cat as she heads to Minneapolis
When I was a young girl, I watched Roots on television and as a young boy was ripped from his mother’s arms to be human trafficked, I started screaming and yelled, “why isn’t anyone stopping this.” That moment carved into my bone, heart, and spirit a belief in the importance of speaking up, disrupting injustice, and standing up for the humanity and dignity for all human beings. We are watching the legacy of American policies snatching Black and Brown people from their families and homes and disappearing them before our very eyes today. I am not my powerless little girl. I can take action and do whatever I can to help protect and love our neighbors. Love is not a hallmark card, it demands that we act. May we be the ones who help “justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
The following words of Martin Luther King Jr. are an inspiration.
“You may be 38 years old, as I happen to be. And one day, some great opportunity stands before you and calls you to stand up for some great principle, some great issue, some great cause. And you refuse to do it because you are afraid…. You refuse to do it because you want to live longer…. You’re afraid that you will lose your job, or you are afraid that you will be criticized or that you will lose your popularity, or you’re afraid that somebody will stab you, or shoot at you or bomb your house; so you refuse to take the stand.
Well, you may go on and live until you are 90, but you’re just as dead at 38 as you would be at 90. And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

Fundraising for Gaza
Beyt Tikkun member Ray, who was highlighted in our newsletter this month, is raising funds for their friend Arka in Gaza. Read Ray’s words below:
One important aspect of my experience right now is my daily conversations with my dear friend Arkan, also a student, at Islamic University in Gaza. As I live a radical trans* student life in the time of rising militant fascism, he recommits daily to his studies on the frontline of genocide. It is not uncommon for him to text me that he had to flee the hospital or classroom due to gunfire. He is currently fundraising in order to enroll in classes next semester— from the bottom of my heart, ask anyone reading this to donate generously and support him.
