About the Event:
Do you have Jewish ancestry from Central and Eastern Europe? From the Russian Empire? Are there mysteries and missing pieces in your family story, or things you wish you could know?
This 101 workshop will help you get started and learn how to research your ancestral lineage, identifying pathways and practical tools for finding your roots. identify pathways for finding your roots. With the advent of DNA testing, and with more and more Jewish vital records, ship lists, and citizenship papers being scanned, translated, indexed, and put online every day, you may be able to get further than you ever imagined.
You may find yourself reframing the story of who you and your ancestors are, strengthening your sense of identification with a multicultural Europe and its lively social movements, like the Bund. Â
About the Facilitator, Sarah Millspaugh:
About Sarah Millspaugh, Beyt Tikkun Member: Through years of research, Sarah has been amazed to be able to find the exact towns her ancestors came from before immigrating to Ukraine and the United States, including (astoundingly) the Lithuanian hometown of an ancestor who died in childbirth with a forgotten maiden name. Sarah currently volunteers with JewishGen.org as the Town Leader and KehilaLinks page author for the city of Dnipro (formerly Yekaterinoslav) in Ukraine. Raised Unitarian Universalist and ordained as a UU minister, Sarah's personal genealogical research has brought her more deeply into the Jewish faith and cultural traditions.Â
Receive Personalized Genaology Research!
When you donate $54 or more to Beyt Tikkun, you’ll receive one hour of personalized genealogical research into your Ashkenazi Jewish family, conducted by Sarah Millspaugh. In that time she may not find answers, but she will most certainly find leads for you to pursue. Your donation helps sustain Beyt Tikkun’s work—and is equivalent to the cost of an hour of professional family history research support. Note that she works full-time and she may not be able to do this until later in the summer or early fall.Â
**This program is part of our community-led workshop series. Ticket costs help sustain Beyt Tikkun’s work.**
