ABOUT
RABBI CAT ZAVIS
Rabbi Cat Zavis has been rabbi of Beyt Tikkun since June 2024. She served the community for nine years prior, during which she completed her rabbinic studies at Aleph: Alliance for Jewish Renewal. She also studied at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA, and at Pardes in Israel/Palestine. Mentored by Rabbi Michael Lerner, Beyt Tikkun’s founding rabbi, she co-led the congregation with him for seven years before transitioning to senior rabbi.
Rabbi Cat is a visionary leader and spiritual guide. She shapes Jewish rituals and teachings, connecting the sacred, the personal, and the political, which are grounded in her experience as a feminist, anti-racist scholar, and teacher.
Under her leadership, Beyt Tikkun has grown in membership, activism, and bold educational opportunities. She has guided the community in embracing a Judaism beyond zionism, gently and lovingly guiding members to engage deeply with justice, empathy, and spiritual practice.
An accomplished lawyer, spiritual social justice activist, and teacher of Prophetic Empathy and Revolutionary Love, Rabbi Cat has trained over 1,000 people in transformative leadership. She served as co-editor of Tikkun magazine and as executive director of the Network of Spiritual Progressives.
Rabbi Cat serves on the Jewish Voice for Peace Rabbinic Council and is a member of Rabbis for Ceasefire and the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity.
