Why Join Beyt Tikkun?

Beyt Tikkun is more than a synagogue—it is a spiritual home for people seeking meaning, justice, and connection in a fractured world. We are a synagogue without walls, welcoming members wherever they live and however they are able to participate.

Through hybrid worship, learning, and community life, you can pray, study, and act alongside others whether you join us in person or online. We are committed to Judaism Beyond Zionism—a Judaism that centers liberation, solidarity with Palestinians, and the ongoing work of healing historical trauma. What binds us is not geography, but shared values: love of the stranger, moral courage, spiritual depth, and a commitment to collective liberation.

When you join Beyt Tikkun, you become part of a caring, prophetic community that shows up—for one another, for those most impacted by injustice, and for the world we are trying to heal.

Become a Member

We invite you to become part of Beyt Tikkun, a vibrant Jewish Renewal community rooted in love, justice, and personal and collective transformation. Led by Rabbi Cat Zavis, Beyt Tikkun offers spiritual care, prophetic teaching, and meaningful ritual grounded in a Judaism that speaks to our time. You can learn more about Rabbi Cat here.

A Truly Hybrid Community—Wherever You Are

Beyt Tikkun is a synagogue without walls, welcoming members both in the San Francisco Bay Area and around the world. We offer engaging hybrid programming, including online and in-person services, classes, and gatherings—so you can participate in ways that fit your life, schedule, and location. Whether you join us from across town or across continents, you are part of our community.

To support this accessibility, we invest in skilled clergy, inspiring musical leadership, and dedicated staff—and we are committed to paying living wages as an expression of our commitment to economic justice and care for workers. Our streamlined online platforms and renewed in-person gatherings allow us to respond to members’ needs with care, flexibility, and depth.

A Growing and Engaged Community

Rabbi Cat has significantly expanded our offerings, deepening both community life and collective action. From worship and study to social justice work and special events, there are many ways to connect and participate. You can explore upcoming and past programs on our Events page.

We invite both new and longtime members to consider deepening their financial commitment in response to the growth and vitality of our community.

What Membership Means

The heart of membership is belonging—to a dynamic, inclusive Jewish Renewal community of prayer, ritual, learning, and action. Together, we integrate spiritual depth and prophetic consciousness with social activism, working toward a more loving and just world.

Membership includes:

  • High Holiday and festival services (free or discounted)
  • Pastoral care and selected life-cycle support
  • Educational programs (free or discounted)
  • Access to our Members-Only webpages
  • Members-only gatherings and community spaces
  • Leadership, committee, and social action opportunities

Accessible and Values-Aligned Dues

We ask members to contribute at least 1% of their total gross income toward annual membership (for example, $500 on a $50,000 income). No one is turned away for financial reasons. We honor the realities faced by young adults, elders on fixed incomes, and anyone experiencing financial strain.
If you need flexibility, we welcome that conversation. Please contact Mar at 510-644-1200 or by email (mar@beyttikkun.org) to discuss what is workable for you.

Join Us

Beyt Tikkun is a place to pray, to struggle, to heal, and to act—together. Wherever you live, and however you participate, we hope you will join us.

Money is not our bottom line. Our Dream . . . A world based on a New Bottom Line.

We believe that a world guided by a New Bottom Line is the most rational and spiritually grounded way to reshape the social structures that govern our lives.

A New Bottom Line calls us to evaluate our institutions and systems — government, economic, education, media, law enforcement, health care, environment, and culture — not by the power they wield or profit they garner, but by the degree to which they uphold human dignity, belonging, and the sacredness of all people, the extent to which everyone’s needs are met, and by how well they protect the life support systems of our planet and ensure that all living beings thrive.

We call this a New Bottom Line – Caring for Each Other and Caring for the Planet.
