Join our Celebration of the Universe and Torah Study on Saturday, December 2nd with Rabbi Cat Zavis, Rabbi Michael Lerner, and Dr. Ami Goodman. We will begin our Shabbat service with beautiful music led by Dr. Ami Goodman and meaningful prayers, balancing the awe of being alive with the call in our tradition for radical transformation of our world.
We will then move to our Torah study. Rabbi Cat will provide some reflections on last week’s Torah portion Vayetzei, when Jacob marries Leah and Rachel, and read this week’s Torah portion, Vayishlach. This parsha continues to tell the saga of Jacob, now meeting up with his estranged brother Esau. We will discuss the ongoing sibling rivalry, deceit, and mistrust, as well as the invisibility of the oppressed ‘other’ in our Torah. We will explore the lessons we can learn from our Torah regarding our psycho/spiritual needs and political realities today.
